I wanted to escape the empty blog, so I moved the article I wrote on June 26, 2024.
One of the most impressive books I read as an adult, “Zero to One” by Peter Thiel, asks in the very first chapter whether there is a truth that only you believe in, but others disagree with. From the moment I first heard that question, I often asked myself. What is the truth of the world that only I can see? I live my life believing that it will find lasting value in my life and in the services I create. That’s why I often explain Peter Thiel’s concept of “Unpopular Truth” to new people I can communicate with and ask them if they have such a thing. Because I know that it is so valuable, I can’t help but be curious about other people’s secret truths as much as my own.
When I first read Antifragile, it felt like I was witnessing the revelation of a secret truth that only someone knew for a long time. In a world where statistics and scientific approaches have become the new religion, it boldly puts everything on the left side of the triad as fragile, and the bold and bold sentences that the nature and tradition of fractals survive longer and become stronger felt like a new Bible. (To be honest, I think it felt that way because it was a bit difficult..) Various evidences and stories that constantly testify before one truth.
For someone who defines himself as a cognitive person and who believes and follows what makes sense more than anyone else, antifragile was a fresh shock. The fact that the color and cognition itself existed even before the word blue existed reminded me of the moment when I designed a service based on expression and concept. When I looked back on how long the logic I insisted on and the understanding I believed in when telling my friends that they were wrong remained in my life, I realized that I couldn't even remember what it was.
What was even more fun was that each chapter reminded me of personal antifragile moments that I didn’t know existed, but that might have led to my old DNA. From my stubbornness that travel should be fun only when it’s a coincidence, to only booking the plane ticket and the first night’s accommodation when traveling abroad alone. The barbell strategy that I didn’t know about, leveraging my limited time in life to invest in startups. Even the choices that kept pushing me into new environments, saying that real growth for a lazy person like me is in a stressful environment.
Suddenly, I thought that even the teachings of many founders and startup management books that I have heard/read out of habit may have been explaining the surface of antifragility. Lean Startup: Start small and repeat. Innovation Stack: Innovation is something that inevitably arises for survival, and it becomes unique and stronger. Cold Start: Proliferate the network of atoms.
It was a truth that someone told me, but I thought it could also be my truth. I'm still in shock and haven't digested it yet, but I want to chew on it by myself and with others.
